No New Posts DOWNTOWN

One knows when they reach Marquette, Michigan when the Great Lake unfolds before them on the horizon. It's quite a fantastic sight, and coupled with the breeze off the lake, it fills a person with an energy unlike any other. The lovely array of shops, eateries and local hotspots make downtown Marquette the place to be. Whether your taste is wine, fine tea, a good ale, or eclectic shopping, the Marquette experience is unlike any other.

No New Posts NORTHSHORE COLLEGE

A large portion of the residents in Marquette and the neighboring cities are college kids and professors at Northshore College. Many of these students have come to Northshore, which is noted for its science programs, to escape their former lives, reach their dreams, and start anew. Some are more scholarly than others, though! The city is always full of college kids biking, hiking, and otherwise infiltrating on their off time.

No New Posts SHIPYARD & DOCKS

As soon as you reach a distance of a hundred feet, you can smell the air wafting off of the lake, bringing with it the smell of the fishmarket, on occasion. Massive ore docks adjacent hold the giant ore ships, dwarfing the shipyard's own craft. Swimming and fishing are not permitted here -- one must go onto another beach or out into the depths, for that. Dock your boat here or rent one and enjoy the Great Lake Superior.

No New Posts LAKE SUPERIOR BREWING COMPANY

If welcoming atmosphere and a good drink is what you're looking for, look no further. The pride of the area, the Lake Superior Brewing company may not be the most modern brewpub, but it's one full of character and passion. Many of the original fixtures and architecture date back to the original construction back in 1932. Come watch the latest sporting event, celebrate festivals, enjoy a family dinner, or just hang out. If you're lucky, owner Mike Savrlosky might even buy you a round, on the house.

No New Posts RESIDENTIAL

The housing area is just outside the main city. Each is different and unique, but it's mostly an older collection of homes. Some are more pristine and others might be a bit shabbier, but all have a story to tell. This residential area extends all the way to the middle of nowhere, where houses may be miles apart, separated by highway and forest.

No New Posts THE APOSTLE ISLANDS

The infamous sea caves of the Apostle Islands are just one of the numerous attractions of this collection of islands just off the coast of Bayfield, four hours away. Although it's not in Michigan, it's an extremely popular destination with campers, hikers, beach-goers, hunters, and even boaters and scuba diving. The spectacular views and isolation make it a perfect place to relax and spend the day or weekend.

No New Posts THE FALLS

Over eighteen different named waterfalls can be found in the Alger County area of Munising, in nearly every direction. There are countless others to be found and explored everywhere around the unpopulated areas of the city, which compromises a great deal of it. Many are accessible through hiking trails, though it is forbidden to go past such trails.

No New Posts PICTURED ROCKS NATIONAL LAKESHORE

Forty-two miles of pristine cliffs and shoreline compose what is known as the Pictured Rocks -- America's first national lakeshore. Many beautiful beaches and stunning waterfalls frame the lakeshore, with a well-developed forest interior, making this an incredible camping or hiking location. The weather can be shifty, however, so dress for changes in conditions!

No New Posts TWELVE MILE BEACH

Part of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, the Twelve Mile Beach is actually only eight miles in length. The view spanning across the lake truly opens your eyes to how massive and powerful Superior really is. The white, crystalline sand grains rapidly drop off into shelves of sandstone beneath the water. It's a popular, yet still tranquil, spot for beachgoers in the summertime, but swimmers be warned: even on the dog days of summer, the waters of Lake Superior still have a chilly bite.
