A ripple extended outwards from its source, crashed with the tiniest, microscopic sound against the shore of the lake as Jade dipped one toe into the ice cold water. You think she would be used to the cold water of Lake Superior by now, but that was definitely not the case, the water was still as cold as ever.
Each year, in early spring, Jade liked to test the waters of the lake to see if maybe this year, the lake wouldn't be freezing. Her hopes were always ruined; her toe always came out cold. Her new puppy, a white and grey husky named Sora after the Kingdom Hearts character, didn't mind the cold nearly as much as Jade did. He bounded into the water, then quickly bounded out and shook his fur, spreading droplets of water everywhere, making Jade scream in half delight and half fury.
"Sora, you silly dog. Come here!" Jade exclaimed as he patted her knee, attracting the attention of the furry pup. He ran over, his tongue slobbering and lolling out of his mouth, a wide grin on his face that said "what? I didn't do anything!" Jade simply shook her head as she crouched down to give the dog a scratch under his chin. The pup was too smart for his own good and often got into trouble. Turning, Jade found a stick in the sand. She waved it around, watching as Sora bent down and stick his rear end up in the air. He let out a playfull bark, telling her to throw the thing already. Taking her hint, Jade drew back her arm and threw the stick into the calm lake.
As her pup splashed about, trying to capture the stick in his teeth, Jade sad down and watched. Birds were chirping their early morning songs, greeting each other after a good nights sleep. They sounded so alive and peaceful, it made the moment feel so serene. The only other sounds were the splashing of Sora, the quiet lapping of the water against the sand, and Jade's own breathing. A oh-so-slight breeze made the ruffles in her gray tank top flutter and she was glad she had elected to put on a beige cardigan and black leggings instead of the sundress she had thought might be nice. No, the ever so slight breeze made the nearly warm 6AM air feel a bit chilly.
Jade took another stick from next to her and started doodling in the sand. At first it was random lines, but those lines soon transformed into a new dress. It looked breezy and easy to wear, something that you could wear on a normal day, something similar to the sundress she had put back into her large closet earlier that morning. Of course, it was just a sketch in the sand and there were no details to be seen, so it didn't really look much like anything. However; in Jade's head, it looked beautiful and something she would love to wear or sell in her shop.
Jade was thankful that it was Sunday today, that meant she didn't have to go open her store. So far, it was just her that worked there. Frankly, she didn't really want to hire anyone to help. Seemed a waste of time, energy, and money to her, seeing as she could easily run the place by herself. Although there were arguments for hiring another person. She could be open Sundays then, and who knows, maybe the extra open day would gain enough income to pay for the extra help, but Jade still held back. She wouldn't hire just anybody.
A cease of movement from Sora made Jade break out of her thoughts of fashion and her shop. The pup was standing still in the water, ears perked, listening. He must have heard something for he was staring at the edge of the forest. Jade resumed her thoughts, paying little attention, it was probably just a bird or a squirrel.
